3h Perth: Young Innovators: Business Workshop

3H Perth's latest workshop was our Young Innovators: Business Workshop, targeted towards kids in grades 3-6, introducing them to basic business concepts to grow their knowledge outside of the standard school curriculum.

In this workshop, students were given a short presentation on the fundamental principles of running a business and being an entrepreneur, learning the importance of designing products that solve real-world problems and the intricate balance between profit maximisation and encouraging sales.

The learning objectives of this workshop were to not only introduce basic economic principles, but also allow them to grow their critical thinking and problem solving skills, practice their creativity, and to give them an opportunity to try out public speaking. The students’ teamwork and collaboration really impressed us – with many of the kids leaving with more friends! By the end, our little entrepreneurs sharpened their negotiation skills as they debated company ownership for cash investments from the sharks who all fought tirelessly for a portion of each business.

To conclude, all of our mentors loved seeing our students’ creative ideas. Their enthusiasm and confidence as they presented their product to solve a problem embodies the exact experience the 3H Program hopes to cultivate – a rewarding learning opportunity spent with a community of both peers and older role models.

We cannot wait to see familiar and new faces at our future Perth events and share thiswonderful immersive experience with more within our local community, acting as the catalyst in combining students’ interpersonal skills with academic enrichment ... all in a fun way :)

Then, our little entrepreneurs used their own creativity to find a problem they face in their day-to-day lives, such as having to carry a heavy water bottle around all day at school, and solve it with their own product. With the guidance of our mentors, each team drew up a prototype, consulted the manufacturer to figure out the cost of producing their products and got advice from the sharks throughout the planning process to undergo the process of designing and refining their ideas. Finally, at the end of the workshop, each team presented their pitch, showcasing their killer negotiation skills with the sharks who all wanted in on their products!

Oh! And if you are reading this and happen to be in Melbourne, look out for Melbourne’s twist on a Shark Tank workshop. Our Melbourne Team hope to see you there!

Thank you to all of you who support us, we would not be able to do this without you. We appreciate donations of any size to our bsb as it allows us to keep these workshops up and going for all students to enjoy in the foreseeable future! 3H is something that we all love and hold close to our hearts, so every dollar and cent that is donated to our organisation gets delivered right back to the heart of our program, the kids. We’re so grateful for the support that we have received from everyone thusfar and we can’t wait for you to see what else we have in store!

Love,

3H Perth Mentors
